Işık is a musician, organizer, label manager, compilation curator, freelance booking agent, and independent postdoctoral researcher in analytical philosophy, based between Budapest and Ankara. He runs the boutique label Inverted Spectrum Records, which releases experimental rock, urban folk, psychedelia, avant-jazz, synthesizer music, and outsider music, with a regional focus on Turkey, Hungary, and Serbia. The release of the compilation The Underground Jazz Scene in Budapest Today: An Adventurous Introduction prompted him to begin organizing events in Hungary and to take on the role of booking agent for an improvisational ensemble consisting of Péter Ajtai, János Bujdosó, Ádám Czitrom, and Attila Gyárfás, four musicians central to the Hungarian alternative jazz scene. He is also a founding member and the drummer of Hayvanlar Alemi, a psychedelic folk rock band established in Ankara in 1999, which has released music on labels such as Glitterbeat, Subsound, Unrock, and Sublime Frequencies.
