Kino Šiška - Katedrala
@Kino Šiška - Katedrala
We welcome you to join us at Katedrala for the opening hello, followed by an evening of music, with concerts starting at 19:30.
MENT #12 opens by bending time itself—where 12 marks both the hour and the edition, a moment suspended between rush and patience. Guided by this year’s symbols, the rabbit and the snail, the festival begins its journey somewhere between speed and slowness, reminding us that music finds its power in both.
You are cordially invited by MENT, our long-standing co-producer of the conference, the Slovenian Music Information Centre (SIGIC), and Music Slovenia.

Speaker: Miloš Hroch (media researcher, CZ)Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek once claimed that with streaming, music has no borders and anyone can build an international career from their bedroom. While Spotify emphasises egalitarian access through playlisting and algorithmic tools, recent research by Miloš Hroch (and Petr Szczepanik) reveals persistent inequalities between cultural centres and peripheries shaped by “spatial gatekeeping” in platform capitalism. In this talk, Miloš Hroch will show how artists, digital distributors, and regional offices of major labels in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) attempt to leverage these inequalities while simultaneously reproducing them.

Moderator: Shawn Reynaldo (First Floor, ES, US)Speakers: Ed Gillett (freelance journalist, UK), Jaymie Silk (producer, DJ, FR), Rami Abadir (ABADIR, Ma3azef), Yuko Asanuma (setten, DE, JP)With the discourse around music becoming increasingly politicized, artists, fans, and industry professionals alike are being pressured to speak out and even boycott certain events, all in an effort to take a stand against everything from genocide, colonialism, and systemic discrimination to environmental degradation and the growing presence of investment capital in the culture. Social media has become littered with these discussions, but are all of the posts, statements, and online debates having a tangible impact on the way the music industry operates?
