“Yalla Miku is an exhilarating debut that reaches beyond the norm with vitality and passion. The Geneva-based group have produced an album that is truly ‘Musique Sans Frontières’.”
David Pratt, KLOF Magazine

Yalla Miku’s frenetic and uplifting debut album is a genre twister, with musicians from North and East Africa coming together with various musical alchemists from Geneva’s burgeoning and experimentally inclined global music scene. It’s a thrilling mix of Moroccan gnawa, haunting guembri melodies and krar riffs with house, electronica and krautrock grooves. Ultimately it’s also a testament to the community-led punk approach that many creatives from the Bongo Joe label adhere to.

Beneath the polished exterior of Geneva lies its true soul, one that pulsates in the city’s historical squats, its North African eateries and venues where artists, musicians and activists meet. This is the Geneva both fostered and uncovered by Bongo Joe through their label, record store and cafè, a community-oriented and welcoming space overlooking the River Rhône: “I’ve always had this project to show the real international Geneva, and with all these different activities I’m fighting to keep the city interesting and honor the underground life that happens here,” says Cyril Yeterian, the Beirut-born musician, singer and founder of Bongo Joe.
