Still House Plants
“Still House Plants are the most vital band in Britain today, in every sense, and we will be blessed indeed if we get a better album from these shores all year.”
Ben Beaumont-Thomas, The Guardian
The London trio Still House Plants consists of Jess Hickie-Kallenbach, Finlay Clark and David Kennedy. From a barebones set-up of vocals, guitar and drums, they create music that restlessly shifts lanes. Moving in and out of focus, drawing on sampling and slowcore, they stutter into repetitions and let you in with them. Their third LP if i don’t make it, i love u represents the fullest embodiment of their sound to date. It is a record shaped by persistence – a commitment to their songs that makes the music solid, warmer and accepted. The band received critical acclaim worldwide for the album, which The Guardian described as post-rock with soul and jazz, particularly praising Hickie-Kallenbach’s vocals. Pitchfork, The Quietus, The Wire and others included it in their AOTY lists.
